(If you'll need to purchase a firearm, you'll want a couple of weeks between New Shooter I and II.)

New Shooter I: The Basics. Classroom only. This course is for people seeking a basic firearms orientation. Especially good for first-time purchasers but will work well to introduce you to the ins and outs of your new or rediscovered handgun. We present a hands-on discussion illustrated with a wide variety of handgun types, actions, features, and options, with an emphasis on safety and best fit with your own hand size, strength, and objectives.

New Shooter I is the prerequisite for New Shooter II.

New Shooter II: Prerequisite: New Shooter I.   Range only. New Shooter II can be taken with your own new or rediscovered handgun, or with one or more guns you learned about in  New Shooter I. We assess your native marksmanship skills and help you start addressing the different factors that might stop you from achieving really effective marksmanship. We continue with safe loading and unloading techniques and start you on a good firearm maintenance regimen. This is a solid intro to working on a live-fire range, including range conventions and etiquette around other shooters. The day will include a typical safety briefing, a review of verbal commands,  and other elements of a normal range experience.

New Shooter III: Principles of Marksmanship.  Range only. This is a flexible, individualized session that takes a look at your current skill levels, wherever they are, and moves those up a notch (often several notches).  NOTE: No spectators, children, or pets are permitted in any live-fire class. Couples and buddies train at separate stations.

New Shooter IV: Gun Cleaning. Workroom only. If you're looking to learn the right way to clean and maintain your handgun in good order, this one's for you. Excellent for new owners but will work well to get you back to good habits with your rediscovered handgun. Learn how to field strip, clean, and reassemble your gun. Learn as well how to begin discerning between problems you can fix and things you should take to your local smith.
